Appellation: Napa Valley, California

A library release still available at the tasting room (and for less $$ than later vintages), this is a dynamite Merlot, possessing the aromatic and flavor profile and elegance of a great Pomerol with the extra flesh and depth of a top-notch Napa Valley red. Beautiful perfume of deep berry and currant fruit mixed with espresso coffee, spices, and bittersweet chocolate. Cascades of rich flavor in the mouth precede a long, pure finish. The quality of the wine is not surprising, given that it is made by Silver Oak's winemaker Daniel Baron. Not cheap, but worth it if you can find it.
