Verget
2004 Macon Villages "Mise Tardive"

Appellation: Macon Villages, Burgandy, France

Review Date : 2008-07-10

Winebork Rating = 80

Tasting Notes

Disappointing in light of how many great and well-priced Verget Macons we've tried in the past. In two separate tastings, the wine came across as flat and uninteresting, dominated by minerals, yeast, and acid but with very little fruit. Certainly drinkable, just somewhat dull, despite what the label advertises as extended, 12 month aging on the lees. At age 4, maybe it's just old enough to have lost its spunk. (Purchased in an excellent mixed-case holiday special at North Berkeley. Normal retail price would be somewhat higher.)
